Born Dec. 18, 1914, in Wilkinsburg, son of Ernest Bernard and Viola Pearl (Johnson) Snyder. Preceded in death by parents; wife, the former Helen Fern (Vought) who died Oct. 12, 1991; son Perry Scott Snyder and sister Laverne Wagner. Survived by children, Mrs. Donald (Eileen) Purbaugh, Casselman; Ms. Penny Benford, Somerset; Mrs. George (Heidi) Prinz, Hicksville Long Island, N.Y.; Jeffrey Otto Snyder, married to the former Denver Mitchell, Rockwood; Jon Christopher Snyder, married to the former, Yvonne Nibert, Rockwood; Mark W. Snyder, married to the former Beth Andrews, Lexington, N.C.; Jacy M. Snyder, Rockwood; and Mrs. Albert (Kellie) Garofalo, Joppa, Md.; 10 grandchildren, Brett, Adam and Chad Purbaugh, Casselman; Mrs. William (Mandy) Sujanski, Somerset; Erick, Tonya and Darrin Prinz, Hicksville, N.Y.; Mrs. Brad (Jessica) Sanner, Rockwood, Branden Snyder of Rockwood, and Christopher Snyder of Somerset; six great-grandchildren, Britty Watson, Hannah, Sarah, Brendon and Faith Purbaugh and Samantha Sujanksi. Also survived by beloved companion, his dog Maxx. Member of Rockwood United Methodist Church. Pfc. U.S. Army veteran of World War II where he served in 315th Infantry Regiment 79th Division European Theatre and received two Bronze Stars. Retired in 1980 with 50 years of service as District Circulation Manager of Pittsburgh Post Gazette and Pittsburgh Press and also had worked for the Pittsburgh Sun Telly. Also a member of VFW Post 554, Orient Lodge 590 F&AM; Joint Council 40 Retirees Club of Teamsters; AARP Somerset Hospital Auxiliary, NRA and New Centerville Grange. Friends were received Wednesday at the Hauger-Zeigler Funeral Home, Somerset. Funeral service will be conducted 11 a.m. today at the Rockwood United Methodist Church, Rockwood. The Rev. Randall W. Bain officiating. Interment Somerset County Memorial Park.
