Born March 18, 1925, in Shanksville, son of LeRoy and Mabel (Gohn) Spangler. Preceded in death by parents and brother-in-law, Marshal Urban. Survived by his wife of 60 years, Gladys (Miller) Spangler; children, Cheryl Spangler, Somerset; Jerry, married to Susan (Mahler) Spangler, Davidsville; Jon, married to Evelyn (Windsor) Spangler, Richardson, Texas; grandchildren, Jessica and Steven Spangler, Richardson, Texas; Jenna and Jonathan Mahler, Philadelphia; brother and sister-in-law, James and Sally Spangler, Somerset; sister, Dorothy Urban, Geiger; sister and brother-in-law, Ruth and Kenneth W. Saylor, New Lexington; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Clyde and Nancy Miller, Berlin; Lester and Ruth Miller, Friedens; Dolores and William Eckman, LaPlata, Md.; Neil and Ruby Miller, Somerset; stepbrother and wife, Thomas and Betty Anderson, Somerset; stepsister and husband, Barbara and Paul Hackett, Hampton, Va. Also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. A 1943 graduate of Shanksville-Stonycreek High School, retired Stonycreek Township dairy farmer and former secretary for Stonycreek Township supervisors. A U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. Member of St. Mark Lutheran Church, Shanksville. Charter member of Shanksville American Legion Post 911 and Shanksville Volunteer Fire Department. Past American Legion county commander (1970), a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 1801 and the Somerset Hospital Parkinson's Support Group. Family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at the Deaner Funeral Home, Stoystown. Viewing from 12 p.m. until time of service at 1 p.m. Tuesday at St. Mark Lutheran Church, Shanksville. The Rev. Robert Way officiating. Interment, Somerset County Memorial Park.
