Spangler, 79, of Somerset died Dec. 6, 2001 at Somerset Hospital. Born Jan. 18, 1922 in Shanksville, he was the son of Earl and Lulu (Bittner) Spangler. He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant brother and an infant sister. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Helen (Coughenour) Spangler; one daughter, Susan L., married to James Gibson, Somerset; three grandchildren, Michael Stephens, Somerset; Alice, married to Michael Catanese, Listie; Mark Stephens, married to the former Kristy Zimmerman, Friedens; and four great grandchildren. He was a retired truck driver for the former Poorbaugh Lumber Co., Buckstown. He was a charter member and Sunday school superintendent of Abundant Life Christian Center, Berlin. Member of American Legion Post 445, Berlin. Army veteran of World War II and a recipient of the Purple Heart medal. Family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the Deaner Funeral Home, Berlin, where service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday with Rev. Samuel Coughenour and Pastor Thomas Kroll officiating. Interment, Somerset County Memorial Park.
