Born July 3, 1916 in Meyersdale. He was a son of the late John and Bessie E. (Streng) Spear. Mr. Spear was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ, charter member and past exulted ruler of Meyersdale BPO Elks Lodge #1951. He was a retired inspector for the Somerset Co. Dept. of Weights & Measures and also operated the Salisbury Hotel for 23 years. He was a Navy veteran of W.W. II. Survivors include his wife, Pauline M. (Glotfelty) Spear; three half brothers, James and Paul, both of Friendsville, Md. and Richard, Owensville, Ind.; three half sisters, Doris Friend, Betty Turney and Lydia Jane Friend, all of Friendsville; uncle, Paul H. Streng, Meyersdale; three aunts, Mary S. Bittner and Florence S. Shaub, both of Canton, Ohio and Nellie S. Guiler, Hialeah, Fla., and a number of nieces and nephews. Friends were received Sunday and will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at the Newman Funeral Home, Salisbury, Pa., where services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Rev. Raymond Brown officiating. Interment, Union Cemetery, Meyersdale. Expressions of sympathy may be directed to either St. John's United Church of Christ or any favorite charity. BPO Elks Lodge #1951 will conduct a memorial service at the funeral home at 7 p.m. Monday. Daily American, January, 23, 1995 [S2522]
