Spear, 69, of Markleysburg, Pa., died Nov. 4, 1978 at his home. Born Jan. 27, 1909 in Somerfield, Pa., the son of the late Charles and Emma (Frazee) Spear. He was a member of the Henry Clay Fire Department; Fayette County Firemen's Association; Markleysburg Grange 1947; Fort Necessity Lions Club; Tri-County Horse and Mule Association; Gideous International; Fayette County Development Council; the Appalachia Wagon Train Association; he was the owner of the Spear Convalescent Home and had been associated with the funeral business for 30 years; and he was a mayor of Markleysburg. Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Bessie (Cunningham) Spear; and five daughters: Mrs. Charles (Betty Jean) Glisan; Mrs. Robert (Beverly) Turner; Mrs. Harry (Josephine) Workman; and Mrs. Gary (Jacqueline) Hinebaugh, all of Markleysburg; and Mrs. Maurice (Della Rae) Owens of West Siloam Springs, Okla.; also two sisters: Mrs. John (Lettie) Turney of Markleysburg; Mrs. Marvin (Mable) Skinner of Farmington; also two brothers: Walter Spear of Hopwood; and Robert Spear of Brandonville, W.Va.; 19 grandchildren; two great-grandsons; and several nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by one son, Edward, in 1949; one brother, Russell; and one sister, Elsie. Friends may call at the James R. Williams Funeral Home in Markleysburg after 7 p.m. Monday evening and Tuesday after 10 a.m. On Wednesday, the body will be taken to the Church of God Tabernacle to lie in state from noon until 2 p.m., the hour of service, with the Rev. Rex Humbard, the Rev. Lincoln Pyle, the Rev. Faye Ratliff, the Rev. Ray Lykens, the Rev. Dwight Aldinger; and the Rev. Vernon Witt officiating. Interment, Humberston [sic] Cemetery.
