Born Dec. 11, 1907, at Cumberland, Md. Daughter of Jacob B. and Gertrude P. (Feichtner) Cook. Preceded in death by parents; husband, H. Wilbur Speicher, who died Nov. 18, 1988; one brother, Lloyd Cook, and one sister, Mae Cook. Employed as an elementary schoolteacher in the Martin School of the New Kensington School District from 1930 to 1938. Was a substitute teacher in the Wilkinsburg and Pittsburgh school systems for many years. She retired in 1965. Affiliated with Meyersdale United Methodist Church. Active in the Mifflin Avenue Methodist Church in Wilkinsburg where she was a member of the Dorcas Class. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star, Star of Bethlehem Chapter, of Wilkinsburg. A past member of National Education Association and the Pennsylvania State Education Association. Was a Girl Scout leader for many years. A 1926 graduate of Meyersdale High School and a graduate of Indiana State Teachers College, Indiana. She enjoyed gardening, knitting, quilting and doing craft work. Survived by two daughters, Mrs. Ronald (Sally L.) George of Lower Burrell, and Mrs. Mario (Connie M.) Vacca of McMurray; one sister, Mrs. Wayne (Evelyn) Santmyers of St. Petersburg, Fla.; four grandchildren. Friends will be welcomed by her family from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday at Clawsons, Second at Main, Leechsburg, where funeral ceremonies will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, the Rev. Edward Sheehan officiating. Interment in Husband Cemetery, Somerset. The Order of Eastern Star, Leechburg, will conduct a service in the funeral home at 7:30 p.m. Friday.
