Born Jan. 11, 1922 in Meyersdale, a son of the late James and Mary (Buskey) Spence. Also preceded in death by his brother, James O. Spence and five sisters, Leona Siehl, Verna Davis, Vivian Donges, Helen Benson and Ruth Edith Siegner. Survived by his wife of 56 years, the former Ella Mae Hillegas and his chosen daughter and dear friend of 30 years, Gale Wood. Also survived by the following nieces and nephews, Shirley Siehl, Meyersdale; James Benson, Mechanicsburg; James Spence, Bridgeville, and Robert Prichard Sr., Cumberland, Md. Bob will be remembered as a friendly man who always had a smile and kind word for everyone. A member of the Amity United Church of Christ, Meyersdale. A 50 year member of the Meyersdale Volunteer Fire Department. Also a member of American Legion Post 112 and VFW Post 3504. He was a veteran of the U. S. Army WWII; retired from the B& O Railroad, Chessie System and CSX Railroad with 40 years of dedicated service as a trackman and machine operator. Friends were received Monday at the Price Funeral Home, Meyersdale, where service was conducted Tuesday with Pastor Bruce Ashlock and Pastor Pete Kaltenbaugh officiating. Interment, Union Cemetery, Meyersdale. Memorials may be made to the Meyersdale Volunteer Fire Department or the Meyersdale Area Ambulance Association.
