  BENDER-SPIKER
  
  Helen K. Bender-Spiker, 87 of Sayre, formerly of Stoystown, died May 5,
  2002 at Guthrie Medical Center, Sayre.  Born Jan. 11, 1915 in Stoystown,
  the daughter of Earl Sr. and Viola (Hockensmith) Stern.  Preceded in death
  by parents; husbands Rev. James I. Bender and Rev. G. Thomas Spiker;
  sisters Alice Leasure, Dorothy Stern and Mary Ellen Sipe; brothers Earl Jr.
  and Benjamin Stern and infant twin brothers.  Survived by son, James L.
  Bender, married to the former Patricia Maus of Sayre; daughter, Joyce
  Bender, married to Don Costigan of Virginia Beach, Va.; grandchildren Shari
  Rossiter, James and Jonathan Bender, David Hoffman and Tonya Jamir, and
  eight great-grandchildren.  Also survived by sister Rose Miller of
  Stoystown; brothers Frank and Marlin Stern, both of Hollsopple, Jack Stern
  of Glen Burnie, Md., William and Herbert Stern, both of Stoystown, and
  Ernest Stern of Quecreek.  Member of Athens Wesleyan Church, Athens, Pa. 
  Family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Deaner Funeral
  Home, Stoystown, where service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday.  Rev.
  Don Kephart officiating.  Interment in Richland Cemetery.
