  SPRINGER
  
  John Spence Springer, 79 of Penn Hills, formerly of Somerset, died
  Jan. 4, 1987, at Montefiore Hospital, Pittsburgh.  Born Dec. 10,
  1907, in Carnegie, Pa., the son of the late Ebert W. and Hortense
  (Knapp) Springer.  Survived by wife, Hildegarde of Penn Hills; one
  daughter, Gretchen O'Hagan of Penn Hills; four grandchildren, four
  great-grandchildren; and one sister, Mrs. Margaret Bauer of Ingram,
  Allegheny County.  Retired engineer from the Army Corps of Engineers,
  serving with them for 38 years, and a member of the Wilkinsburg
  Elks.  Naval veteran of World War II.  A member of St. James
  Episcopal Church, Penn Hills.  Resided in Bakersville upon his
  retirement from 1970 until 1983, when he returned to Pittsburgh. 
  Visitation will be 2-9 p.m. Tuesday at the Maurice L. Knee, Ltd., 800
  Center St., Pittsburgh.  Services will be held at St. James Episcopal
  Church, 11524 Frankstown Road, Penn Hills.  Additional visitation one
  hour prior to service.
