"Hip" Stapleton, 83, of Everett RD, died Oct. 2, 2001 at his residence. Born on June 28, 1918 in Saxton, the son of Mitchell and Dessa (Evans) Stapleton. He married Betty M. Blattenberger on May 17, 1941 at Cumberland, Md. She died Feb. 8, 2000, ending a marriage of 58 years. He attended the Everett United Methodist Church. He is survived by a daughter, Vanetta M. Bowersox of Carlisle and two sons: Joseph M. and Craig M., both of Somerset; 6 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren; and a sister, Betty Belle Dawson of Houston, Texas. He is also survived by a special friend, Eleanor Orr of Everett. He retired from New Enterprise Stone & Lime Company, Somerset plant, with over 25 years of service. He was also employed by PBS Coal Company, Somerset and also served as a federal mine inspector. He was an Army veteran of World War II serving in the 104th Infantry Regiment 26 Division, receiving the Purple Heart. He was a member of Woodbury Lodge #539 F&AM, Altoona Consistory and Jaffa Temple. Friends will be received 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday in the J. Gary Thompson Funeral Home, Roaring Spring, where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. by Rev. David Brinker. Interment in Fairview Cemetery, Martinsburg. Memorial contributions may be given to the Everett United Methodist Church, 221 East Main Street or to the Home Nursing/Hospice United, 227 Hospital Drive, Suite 2, both of Everett, Pa., 15537.
