Born in Allegany County Dec. 23, 1901, she was the daughter of the late William H. and Esther (Pogue) Burkett. She was a retired employee of the Cumberland Laundry Company and was a member of the Central Assembly of God Church. Her husband, Herman F. Starkey, died May 19, 1965. Survivors include two sons, Herman E. Starkey, Wellersburg; and William H. Starkey, Hyndman; two daughters, Hilda H. Mellott, Corriganville, Md.; and Geraldine E. Goss, Cresaptown, Md.; two brothers, Irvin Burkett and George Burkett, both of Corriganville, Md.; four sisters, Mary Bridges, Claysburg; and Mame Conners, Nellie Bridges and Elsie Hartsock, all of Corriganville, Md.; 24 grandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren and six great great-grandchildren. Friends were received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, Virginia Avenue, where services were conducted at 11 a.m. by the Rev. Gary J. Butler. Interment, Rest Lawn Memorial Gardens.
