Charles E. Staub, 96 of Sterling, IL, died on March 16, 2008. He was born October 22, 1912 in Shamokin, PA, son of Charles Edgar and Rebecca (Noaker) Staub. He is survived by his wife, Dagney; son, Martin; two grandchildren and three great grandchildren. He graduated from Hazleton High School, Hazleton, PA in 1930, from Gettysburg College in 1934, and from Gettysburg Seminary in 1937. Pastor Staub was ordained on May 19, 1937 in Christ Lutheran Church, Gettysburg. He served as Assistant Pastor at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Clinton, IA, 1937-1938, and as Pastor of Liberty Valley Lutheran Parish, Liberty, PA, 1939-1943; St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Lebanon, PA, 1943-1945; Elysburg Lutheran Parish, Elysburg, PA, 1945-1954; Zion Lutheran, Meyersdale, 1954-1969; St. Mark, Shanksville, 1969-1975; Holy Trinity, York Springs, 1975 until his retirement Easter, 1978. In addition to his pastoral duties, Rev. Staub served as vice president and president of the Allegheny Conference, Dean of the Somerset District, member of the Board of Directors of Tressler Lutheran Home for Children, member of the Board of the Allegheny Lutheran Homes for the Aged and Social Services for 20 years and as a member of the Executive Board of the Synod. He also served as president of the Somerset Ministry Board, and as president of the Somerset County Lutheran Pastoral Association. He was also a member of the Executive Committee of the Comprehensive Health Planning Association of Western Pennsylvania, Inc., and as vice pastor of Faith Lutheran Church, Somerset. He was a Rotarian (Paul Harris Fellow) and a 32nd degree Mason. Pastor Staub married Marian Weaver in 1939, and they served the church together until she was no longer physically able. She preceded him in death in 1988. Together they had three children: Charles Martin, a retired instrumental music teacher, (married to Joyce Crissinger), Barbara Ann (deceased), and Deborah Elisabeth (deceased). Pastor Staub had two grandchildren (David Martin Staub and Cami Sue Cooley), and three great-grandchildren (Amanda Leigh Staub, Ryan David Staub, and Erin Grace Cooley). Charles married Dagny Rechkemmer in 1989. They reside in Sterling where they are members of St. John's Lutheran Church.
