"Pap" 09/09/08 Daily American Ray E. "Pap" St Clair, 82, Boswell (Jenner Township), died Sept. 7, 2008, at Somerset Hospital. Born Sept. 18, 1925, in Jenner Township, the son of Charles and Bessie (Pyle) St Clair. Preceded in death by parents; brother, Merle; and sisters, Ruth Donitzen, Ethel Walker and Nellie Smith. Survived by wife of 62 years, the former LaVonne Croom; children, Linda Shideler, Bakersfield, Calif.; Ray Jr., El Monte, Calif.; Tom, married to the former Rebecca Mardis, Boswell; Robert, Palm Springs, Calif.; and Ron, married to the former Diane Gindlesperger, Boswell; 10 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; brothers, Lloyd, married to the former Jane Keyser, Boswell; Glenn, Chickentown; and Dean, Gray. A U.S. Army Air Corps veteran of World War II, where he served in the Pacific Theater of Operations with the 548th Night Fighters. He was also a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Korean War. He was a retired coal miner. Member of the Laurel Hill Gospel Tabernacle, Jennerstown. Before his illness, he was an avid trapper and bowler. He also enjoyed the company of his pet raccoon, Rascal. Viewing from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the Hoffman Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 227 Allegheny St., Boswell. Viewing also from 10 a.m. until time of service 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Laurel Hill Gospel Tabernacle. The Rev. Gary W. Anderson officiating. Interment Beam Cemetery.
