One of the oldest policeman of Johnstown died at his home in that city Saturday after five weeks illness resulting from jumping over a wall to rout a gang of boys. Within two hours after vaulting over the wall Mr. Stearn was in an unconscious state from that until the hour of his death. The deceased was born in August 1846 at Davidsville, Somerset County and went to Johnstown many years ago to work for the Cambria Iron Company. He was appointed a policeman in the borough of Johnstown during the administration of the late Burgess Henry Wilson Storey, and had been a member of the city police force since the administration of the late James K. Boyd, Johnstown's second Mayor. Lieut. Stearn was the oldest man on the police force and was well known. The deceased and Miss Catherine Grady, of Somerset County, were married about 50 years ago. Mrs. Stearn survives her husband with a number of children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Meyersdale Commercial, May 18, 1916
