Alexander Steele, died on Wednesday, July 31, in Chautauqua, N.Y., where he had been assistant pastor the last three years. Funeral services were held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 4, in the Hershberger Funeral Home, West End, Pittsburgh. Interment in Jefferson Memorial Cemetery, Monday. Rev. Steele was aged 72 at time of death. He was born in England and came to America at the age of four years. During his ministry in Pennsylvania, he served as pastor of Methodist churches in Meyersdale, Ligonier, Brookline and Braddock. It was during the pastorate of Rev. Steele that the debt on the Meyersdale church was liquidated in 1918 with Bishop William Berry present for the services incident to the celebration of the indebtedness being cleared. He is survived by his second wife, Mrs. Alma Andrews Steele; four sons, James W. Steele, Alexander T. Steele, Albert J. Steele and Robert B. Steele; three daughters, Miss Margaret J. Steele, Mrs. Rebecca S. Hershberger, and Mrs. Phyllis S. Nesbit, and six grandchildren. Meyersdale Republican, August 8, 1946
