Steiner, 85, Running Deer Drive, Auburn, formerly of Orwigsburg and Somerset, died June 2, 2006 at his residence. Born May 3, 1921 in Taylor, son of the late Fred and Margaret (Leuthold) Steiner. Preceded in death by sister, Jean Rochester. Survived by his wife, Betty Jane (Jones) Steiner, whom he married on Dec. 26, 1954; daughter, Karen A. Steiner, married to Scott Smith of Arlington, Mass. A 1938 graduate of Hazleton High School and a graduate of Penn State, class of 1951 with a degree in agriculture. He was employed by the U.S. Department of Agriculture as a conservationist from which he retired in 1982 and worked for the Lehigh County Conservation District until 1989 when he retired. He was a member of the United Presbyterian Church, Pottsville. Served in the U.S. Army Air Corp. as a corporal in World War II in which he received the American Theater Ribbon and the Victory Medal. He was a member of the F & AM Lodge 138 Orwigsburg, Harrisburg Consistory, and the Raja Temple of Reading. A visitation with the family will be held at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Hamilton Funeral Home Inc., 116 S. Liberty St., Orwigsburg. Masonic service at 7 p.m. and a celebration of "Bill's" life service at 7:15 p.m. A private funeral service will be held.
