Born August 11, 1926 in Oosterbierum, Netherlands, he was the son of Rommert and Ymkje (Hoitinga) Stellingwerf. Preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Piet, Jouke, Rommert and his wife Hillie, all of the Netherlands; Haye, New Zealand; brother-in-law Jan Glazema, Netherlands; father and mother-in-law Jochum and Johanna (Spandaw) DeVries and sister-in-law Henderika Dirkje DeVries. Survived by his wife of 38 years Dirkje (DeVries) Stellingwerf, daughter Joanne, married to Chad Martin, Brownstown; son Rommert, Berlin; grandchildren Jessica Ashley and Dillon Bradley Martin; sister Akke Stellingwerf Glazema, Tzummarum, Netherlands; sisters-in-law, Geertje Fennema Stellingwerf and Marjorie King Stellingwerf, both of Emmeloord; Froukje De Jong Stellingwerf, Creil; Geraldine Stellingwerf, New Zealand; brothers-in-law Saekle and his wife Jacoba Schendelaar DeVries, Franeker, Netherlands, and Jacob Bote DeVries, Sitges, Spain; sister-in-law Beitske Van Der Weide DeVries, Franeker, Netherlands; and numerous nieces and nephews. Owen was a retired dairy farmer in Brothersvalley Township and enjoyed competing in the former Somerset County Plowing Contest. He was the past director for DHIA, member of the Holstein Association, Brothersvalley Chapter of Young Farmers; and was a member and former deacon at Trinity United Church of Christ, Berlin. He had served for 3 years in Indonesia with the Dutch Army before coming to the U.S. in 1957. Family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at Deaner Funeral Home, Berlin, where a service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday. The Rev. James Hughes and Rev. Ralph Landis officiating.
