Born Jan. 14, 1920, in Washington, D.C., he was the son of Alexander J. and Mary K. (Lange) Stephens. Survived by his wife, the former Hazel Montgomery, and daughters: Barbara Jean, Alex Ann Needham and Mary Susan Stephens, all of Florida. Also surviving are two grandsons and one great granddaughter of Florida. Brother of Paul A. Stephens, Lillian Shumaker and Katherine Beal of Meyersdale, Mabel Hornbake of Ebensburg and Gloria Retchey of Everett, La. He served his county as a sergeant in the Military Police 77th Division, U.S. Army. Past commander of American Legion Post 112 of Meyersdale. His career was in retail management. Private services were held at Babione Funeral Home, Boca Raton. Interment was in the National Cemetery, Bushnell, Fla. Daily American, November 3, 1998 [S2927]
