Born Aug. 27, 1909, in Greenwich, Cambria County, son of the late William Henry and Arizona (Boring) Stephens. Also preceded in death by first wife, the former Helen Louise Kelly; a daughter, Linda Marie; brothers, Earl, William, George, and Harry; sisters, Elizabeth Weakland, Gertrude Carlson, and Lillian Fishel. Survived by second wife, Miriam V. Christner Sembower-Stephens of Somerset; a son, James H. Stephens, married to former Maria Juhas of Pittsburgh; a stepdaughter, Jane E. Sembower of Gaithersburg, Md.; also two grandchildren Julie Marie and Jason Howard Stephens. Retired Sergeant of Pa. State Police, former Somerset County deputy sheriff, former chief probation officer for Somerset County, a former special investigator for the Pa. Public Utility Commission was the liability claims manager and assistant to the president of the Rockwood Insurance Company. Member of St. Peter's Catholic Church, the Fraternal Order of Police, F.O.E. Aerie No. 1801, and Elks Lodge No. 1951 of Meyersdale. Friends received 7-9 p.m. Saturday, and 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Sunday at the Hauger-Zeigler Funeral Home where wake service will be held at 8:45 p.m., Sunday. Mass of Christian Burial 10 a.m. Monday at St. Peter's Catholic Church, Monsignor Samuel J. Tomaselli, celebrant. Interment, Somerset County Memorial Park.
