Stern Jr., 74, of Center Street, Boswell, died Oct. 6, 2000, at Shadyside Hospital, Pittsburgh. Born Nov. 10, 1925, in Quemahoning Twp., son of Earl L. Sr. and Viola Margaret (Hockensmith) Stern. Preceded in death by parents; first wife, the former Ruth Elaine Miller, Sept. 11, 1951; grandson, Bradley Lynn Koontz, May 18, 1975; granddaughter, Mariann Morgan, March 1, 1990; sisters, Dorothy Stern, Emily Alice Leazier and Mary Ellen Sipe; infant twin brothers and brother, Benjamin. Survived by wife, of 47 years the former Mary Ann Biondo; children: Barbara, wife of Randall Koontz, Jennerstown; Roger, married to Nancy Hoffman, Boswell; Gerald, Atlanta, Ga.; Cynthia and fiance' Jim Kaufman, Boswell RD; and Christopher, Boswell; and grandchildren: Natalie (Koontz), wife of Joseph Felix; Holly Koontz, and friend, C.J. Morgante; Marcie Koontz; Gretcjem Sterm amd friend Jason Ankeny; Matthew, Joshua, Daniel and Megan Jo Stern; Laura, Nicholas and Alexandra Morgan. Brother of Helen Bender-Spiker, Sayre, Pa; Rose Marie Miller, Stoystown; Frank, married to Ethel Gardner, Hollsopple RD; Jack, married to Frances Aultz, Glen Burnie, Md.; William, married to Thelma Miller, Stoystown RD; Herbert, married to Martha Rose, Jenner Crossroads; Ernest, married to Gloria Chronowski, Quecreek; and Marlin, married to Emily Livingston, Hollsopple RD; and sister-in-law, Flora, widow of Ben Stern, Friedens. Member of All Saints Catholic Parish where he had served on council. Former member of the Somerset County Homebuilders Assoc. Army veteran of World War II. Former partner with brother Marlin in Stern Brothers Contractors for over 30 years. Friends received from 7-9 p.m. Monday and 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, at Hoffman Funeral Home, Main Street Boswell, where vigil for the deceased will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday. Funeral mass at 10 a.m. Wednesday at All Saints Church, Boswell. Rev. Fr. Martin Breski, OFM Conv., celebrant. Committal, Mt. Carmel Cemetery, Jenner Crossroads.
