Stern, 68, Quecreek, died Sept. 8, 1987, in Somerset Community Hospital. Born May 11, 1919, in Quemahoning Township, son of the late Russell and Emma (Ogline) Stern. Besides his parents he was preceded by one son, Kenneth M., and 10 brothers and sisters. Survived by his wife, Tillie May Holder; two daughters: Delores, wife of William Latshaw, Somerset RD 1; Helen, wife of Jack Ogline, Friedens RD 1; three grandchildren: John Whipkey, Boswell RD 2; Susan Spangler, Stoystown RD 1; and Jackie Ogline, Pensacola, Fla.; four great-grandsons: Jesse and Brent Spangler; Ben and Jacob Whipkey; a brother, Clay, Stoystown RD 1; two sisters: Virginia Cole, Gray; and Olive Manges, Jerome. He owned and operated Stern's Garage in Quecreek for 29 years. A veteran of World War II. Friends received 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday at Robert H. Halverson Funeral Home where service will be conducted Friday at 1:30 p.m., the Rev. Donald Speigle and the Rev. Norman Moyer officiating. Interment, Mt. Tabor Cemetery.
