    Ross Stern, 71, of Somerset RD 6 died Dec. 3, 1989, in Somerset. 
  Born Feb. 7, 1918, in Somerset Township, son of the late Joseph F.
  and Stella (Friedline) Stern.  Also preceded in death by grandson,
  James Stern; great-granddaughter, Cassandra Haupt; sisters, Melda
  Phillippi; Bessie and Ruth Stern; brothers, Edmond and Jacob. 
  Survived by wife, the former Violet P. Miller; children: Audrey Stern
  Hershey of West Grove, and James K. of Somerset RD 2; six
  grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.  Brother of Mrs. Charlie
  (Nancy) Briar, Somerset RD 6; Harry, Somerset; Mrs. Gilbert (Evelyn)
  Berkey, Somerset RD 6; Paul of Somerset.  Son-in-law of Alice Ewel
  Miller, Somerset RD 6, and the late Bert Miller.  Death ends marriage
  of 51 years.  Retired carpenter.  Member of Samuels Lutheran Church;
  National Rifle Association; I.O.O.F. Lodge 438; United Brotherhood of
  Carpenters and Joiners of American #4149; National Federation of
  Sportsmen; Lavansville, Bakersville and Trent Rod and Gun Club and
  the Laurel Ridge Sportsmen Association.  Friends received from 2-4
  p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Monday at the Hauger-Zeigler Funeral Home. 
  Services at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in the Samuels Lutheran Church, the
  Rev. Roger Steiner officiating.  Interment, Somerset County Memorial
  Park.  Family suggests contribution be made to the Samuels Lutheran
  Church.
