    Phyllis J. Sterner, 73, Cumberland, Md., died Aug. 12, 2007, at her residence. Born
  Sept. 7, 1933, in Somerset, the daughter of the late George W. and Elva (Miller) Sterner.
  She is also preceded in death by one brother, Barry Sterner, and a sister-in-law, Joyce
  Sterner. Survived by a brother, Dale M. Sterner, and wife, Sandy, Cumberland; nieces and
  nephews and a sister-in-law, Connie Sterner, Mount Vernon, Ill. Friends will be received
  from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the Upchurch Funeral Home, 202 Greene St., Cumberland. The
  funeral service will be conducted 10 a.m. Friday at the St. Paul's Lutheran Church,
  Cumberland. The Rev. John J. Duffus officiating. The committal service will take place at
  Somerset County Memorial Park at 2 p.m. Friday. Memorial contributions may be made to St.
  Paul's Lutheran Church, Washington and Smallwood St., Cumberland, MD 21502.
