Stevanus, 82, of Rockwood RD 2, died May 9, 1977 in the Altoona Veterans Hospital. Born April 15, 1895 in Elk Lick Township, a son of Bert and Annie (Shumaker) Stevanus. Survived by his wife, Ida (Burkholder) Stevanus of Rockwood RD 2; three sons: Ray W. of Rockwood RD 3; Charles John of Rockwood RD 2; and James R. of Rockwood; five sisters: Mrs. Margaret Barcrar, Mrs. Mary Burnsworth, Bessie Seese, and Bertha Leepahack, all of Windber; Mrs. Leora Hostetler of Garrett and Mrs. Florence Conn of Berlin RD 1; nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by his parents and two brothers. He was a veteran of World War I and was a member of the VFW of Somerset. Friends will be received at the William J. Wood Funeral Home, Rockwood, from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday where services will be conducted Thursday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Don Judy officiating.
