Stevanus, 83, Meyersdale RD 4, died Nov. 16, 1986, at his home. Born Feb. 13, 1903, Elk Lick Township, a son of the late Gabriel and Rebecca (Keefer) Stevanus. Preceded in death by his wife, the former Florence M. Everline; a daughter, Esther Jean; and eight brothers and sisters. Survived by these children: Kenneth E., Richmond, Va.; Mrs. Jane Brocht, Meyersdale; Miss Ethel, Meyersdale RD 4; Mrs. Nancy Forney, College Park, Md.; and Mrs. Mary Butterfield, Berkley Springs, W.Va.; also six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren. A brother of Mrs. Sue Holt, Cumberland, Md. Retired in 1968 from his refuse collecting service in the Cumberland area after 32 years service. He was a former school teacher, having taught at the Springs, Yoder and Wellersburg schools. He served as president of the Meyersdale Area School Board from 1966 to 1968. He was a member of St. John's United Methodist Church, Meyersdale RD 4, was a lay speaker, adult Sunday school and Bible study teacher. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the Price Funeral Home, Meyersdale. Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. John's United Methodist Church, Meyersdale RD 4, where the body will lie in state from 10 a.m. until time of service, the Rev. Charles Harper, the Rev. Ray Gnagey and the Rev. Timothy Storms, officiating. Interment, church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Meyersdale Public Library, favorite charity or church organizations. Daily American, November 18, 1986 [S3001]
