Stevanus, was born March 30, 1865; died in the Rockingham Memorial Hospital, Harrisonburg, Va., Feb. 25, 1931, after an illness of nine weeks. Death was due to a complication of ailments but more especially to heart dropsy. She was a daughter of the late Israel and Caroline Keefer. She was born in Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania, but spent practically her entire life in Somerset County, in the vicinity of Macdonaldton and Springs. On June 3, 1931, Mr. and Mrs. Stevanus removed to Harrisonburg, Virginia, and have since resided with their daughter, Mrs. Naomi Tressler of that city. Mrs. Stevanus was the mother of ten children. Two sons and a daughter preceded her in death. Her husband and the following named children survive: Elmer G., Portland, Oregon; Ira J., Los Angeles, California; Jennie (Mrs. Fred Grenke) Detroit, Michigan; Mary, (Mrs. W. J. Staggs) Cresaptown, Maryland; Mrs. Naomi Tressler, Ralph E. and Susie G., of Harrisonburg, Virginia. She is also survived by ten grandchildren, two brothers and five sisters. Undertaker Higgs of Harrisonburg, Va., prepared the body for burial. After a short service at the home of Mrs. Tressler, the body was shipped to Undertaker W. C. Price at Meyersdale, and thence to the home of John Tressler, at Springs. Funeral services on Saturday, February 28, in the Springs Mennonite Church, were conducted by Abram Metzler, of Masontown, Pa., assisted by G. D. Miller, of Springs. Pall-bearers were S. L. Maust, S. S. Miller, D. D. Otto, J. H. Bender, N. S. Maust and C. F. Killius. Several hundred people attended the funeral, showing the respect of the people for Mrs. Stevanus in the community she lived in for more than forty years. The family express their thanks for kindness and sympathy shown them in the hours of sorrow. Meyersdale Republican, March 5, 1931
