"Stevie" Stevens Jr., 63, of South Water Street, Frostburg, Md., died August 18, 1978, in Sacred Heart Hospital where he was admitted Wednesday, August 16. He had been failing health for the past year. Born in Salisbury, he was the son of the late Clarence and Grace (Short) Stevens. He was retired from the Celanese Fibers Corporation where he was employed in the warehouse. A Navy veteran of World War II, he was a member of Farrady Post 24 American Legion where he was a member of the honor guard, Fraternal Order of Eagles 1273 where he was a past trustee, Old Rail Post 6025 VFW of Mount Savage and he belonged to the musicians' union. Survivors include his widow, Virlen (Durst) Stevens; one son, Kenneth C. Stevens, Cumberland; one daughter, Mrs. Verl A. Perkins, Frostburg, Md.; one brother, Arthur Stevens, Eckhart, Md.; two sisters, Mrs. Jane Durst and Mrs. Letha Simmons, both of Frostburg, Md.; and three granddaughters. Friends were received at the Durst Funeral Home where services were conducted Sunday at 1:30 p.m. with the Rev. George L. Wehler officiating. Interment, Mt. Zion Cemetery, Garrett County. Farrady Post 24 and Old Rail Post 6025 accorded military rites at graveside. Members of the two organizations were pallbearers. The Republic, August 24, 1978 [S3009]
