Born Nov. 1, 1922, in Rockwood, son of the late W. John and Marian (Simpson) Stiteler. A highly decorated U.S. Army Air Corps veteran having served with the 8th Air Force in W.W. II, also decorated in Korea having served in the U.S. Air Force, and was retired from the U.S. Air Force Reserve 911th Military Air Lift Group, Pittsburgh in 1972. As a lieutenant colonel, Mr. Stiteler was a former attorney with Smith, Best, and Horn and a former workman compensation referee for the Commonwealth of Pa. Prior to retirement he had been employed as an attorney with West Penn Power Company of Greensburg. Former chairman and active member of the Westmoreland County Republican Party and a candidate for the county commissioner in 1963, and candidate for the Pa. state legislature in 1964. A graduate of Valley Forge Military Academy, Yale University, and Dickenson Law School. Survived by his wife, Angeles Lopez Portillo Stiteler, a son, W. John of Somerset, and Norman A. of Waterford, four daughters: Tey Stiteler of Pittsburgh, Maria Stiteler of Portland, Maine; Guadalupe Stiteler-Brown of Greensburg, and Maria Simon of Ancaster, Ontario, 13 grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. Survived by a sister, Jaqueline des Cognets of Williamstown, Mass. Friends will be received at the Coshey-Nicholson Funeral Home Inc., 319 West Pittsburgh St., Greensburg, from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday. Graveside service will be held 1 p.m. Sunday at the Barronvale Lutheran Church Cemetery, Barronvale. Daily American, September 11, 1993 [S3053]
