Streng, 75, a retired feed mill proprietor of Meyersdale, died on Monday afternoon at the Somerset State Hospital, where he had been a patient for a month. Mr. Streng also taught school here for a number of years and was a singing teacher of local prominence. He was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Christian Streng. His wife, Mrs. Carrie (Bowser) Streng, died a year ago. Surviving are seven children - Arthur and Paul, both of Meyersdale; Luther, Jersey City, N.J.; Mrs. Philip Bittner, Mrs. Lester McCrea and Mrs. Emmet Schaub, all of Canton, O.; and Mrs. R. E. Miller, Carroltown, O. He was a brother of J. A. Streng, Waterford, O., and Mrs. Minnie Boyd, Shadyside, O. He was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church. Funeral arrangements are in charge of W. C. Price & Son, local morticians. Funeral services were conducted at 2:30 o'clock Thursday afternoon at Zion Lutheran Church by Rev. R. M. Dunkelberger, D.D. Interment in Union Cemetery. Meyersdale Republican, July 6, 1944 -- CHARLES C. STRENG Charles C. Streng, a retired feed mill owner and operator and well known citizen of Meyersdale, died Monday afternoon, July 3rd, in the Somerset State Hospital where he had been a patient for two months. He was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Christian Streng. In his younger years he was a teacher in the public schools of Somerset County, and also a singing teacher of local prominence. After his marriage to Miss Carrie Bowser, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Bowser of Summit Township, Mr. and Mrs. Streng established their home in Meyersdale, where they reared a fine family. Mr. Streng was an industrious and honorable businessman and prospered in the food milling business until his retirement some years ago on account of failing health. Mrs. Streng passed away about three years ago. Surviving are seven children, namely: Arthur and Paul, Meyersdale; Luther, Bordentown, N.J.; Mrs. Philson Bittner, Mrs. Lester McCrea and Mrs. Emmet Schaub, Canton, O.; also an adopted son, Charles Spear, Petty Officer, 3/c U.S. Navy. Thirteen grandchildren and four great-grandchildren also survive; also a brother, A. A. Streng, Waterford, Ohio, and a sister, Mrs. Minnie Boyd, Shadyside, Ohio. Mr. Streng was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, where funeral services were conducted at 2:30 p.m., Thursday, July 6th, by the pastor, Rev. R. M. Dunkelberger, D.D.
