Born Feb. 18, 1911, in Meyersdale, she was a daughter of the late Oscar Charles and Mary (Sluss) Merrill. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, George Henry Strong, who died Oct. 7, 1957; two brothers: James and Charles Merrill; and a sister, Margaret Dwire. She is survived by three children: Sara Jane Hutzell of Somerset; Mrs. Joseph (Henrietta) Shockey of Seven Hills, Ohio; and Pamela Ann Hutzell of Somerset. She is also survived by a granddaughter, Mrs. Erik (Julie Ann Hutzell) Scholl of Gettysburg. Mrs. Strong was a sister of Edward O. Merrill of Lebanon, Mo.; and Mrs. Thelma Coleman of Somerset. She was a member of the St. Francis in the Fields Episcopal Church and the Trinity Chapter #138 OES. She was a past member of the Business Professional Women of Somerset. She graduated from Rockwood High School in 1929 and from the Jefferson School of Nursing in Philadelphia. Friends were received Oct. 12 at the Hauger-Zeigler Funeral Home in Somerset. Services were scheduled to be conducted at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 13, at the St. Francis in the Fields Episcopal Church, Somerset, with the Rev. Father J. Mark Zimmerman officiating. No viewing will be at the church. Interment, Rockwood I.O.O.F. Cemetery. Contributions may be made to the Friedens Elementary School Library, 1936 Stoystown Road, Friedens, PA 15541.
