All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/pa/somerset/ _______________________________________________ LEONA HAY STROUPE Mrs. Leona Hay Stroupe, 76, formerly of Oak Park, Ill., died Dec. 5, 1973, in a retirement village home in Grand Rapids, Mich., where she had gone to live recently after selling her Oak Park home. Born in Maytown, Pa., March 12, 1897, she was the daughter of the late Rev. Ellis Simon and Eve Ora (Walker) Hay, both natives of Brothersvalley Twp. Her grandparents were the late Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Walker and Mr. and Mrs. Benjamin G. Hay, both well-known farm families in the Hay's Church area. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence L. Stroupe, a self-employed musician, in 1951. Surviving are: one son, Dr. John Hay Stroupe, Kalamazoo, Mich.; three grandsons, John Homan Stroupe, James Hay Stroupe and Nathan Walker Stroupe, all of Kalamazoo; two sisters, Mrs. Edna Sites, of Tulsa, Okla.; and Mrs. Evelyn Schulz, Richmond, Va. Also surviving is one uncle, Guy H. Walker, a long time resident and farmer of Brothersvalley Twp., now of Somerset, who owned and operated the Walker farm where Mrs. Stroupe's mother was raised. During her young, the Rev. Ellis Hay family lived in the Hay's Church area for more than a year and visited the area numerous times afterwards when the family lived away. She was preceded in death by one brother, the Rev. Ellis Walker Hay, in 1952. Mrs. Stroupe was a retired musician and teacher. Many of her cousins are residing in the Meyersdale and Berlin areas.
