Stuart, 83, formerly of Somerset, died Jan. 13, 1982 at Fairfax Nursing Center, Fairfax, Va. Born in Versailles, Ky., he spent his childhood and early adulthood in Kentucky and Virginia. In 1937 he and his wife, the late Francis Dornin Stuart, moved to Somerset and founded the Somerset Canning Corp. where he continued as president until his retirement in 1965. For the past year he had lived in White Falls, Va. at the home of his daughter, Mrs. John Livingood. He was a graduate of Washington and Lee College in Lexington, Va. and in 1924 he received a degree in mechanical engineering from Cornell University. He was past president of the Pennsylvania Canners Association, having served on its board of directors. He was a veteran of World War I, a member of the American Legion in Somerset and an active member of St. Paul's Presbyterian Church, Somerset, serving as an elder. He is survived by three daughters: Mrs. John Livingood, White Falls, Va.; Sally H. Stuart, Alexandria, Va.; and Mrs. O.L. North, Falls Church, Va.; seven grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Saturday, Jan. 16, at 11 a.m. at the Falls Church Presbyterian Church followed by interment, Chestnut Grove Cemetery.
