Sturtz, 89, died March 8, 1983 at Memorial Hospital, Cumberland, Md. Born in Wellersburg, June 21, 1893, he was a son of the late Josiah D. Sturtz and Lily Mae (Geary) Sturtz. His wife, Lavade (Troutman) Sturtz died March 25, 1969. He was a retired coal and clay mine worker. He was a member of Zion United Church of Christ. He is survived by one son, Robert S. Sturtz, Wellersburg; four daughters, Mrs. Marie Halle and Mrs. Leona Evans, both of Wellersburg; Mrs. Alverda Spataro, Morantown, Md.; Mrs. Violet Eileen Skipper, Mount Savage, Md.; three brothers, Melvin T. Sturtz, Cresaptown, Md.; Daniel Sturtz and Calvin Sturtz, both of Wellersburg; five sisters, Mrs. Florence A. Dreyer, Mrs. Carrie C. Robinette and Mrs. Ethel L. Davis, all of Cumberland, Maryland; Mrs. Nora May Long and Mrs. Erma LaVerne Robinette, both of Wellersburg; seven grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. Friends were received at the Zeigler Funeral Home, Hyndman. Services were conducted at the Zion United Church of Christ with the Rev. Harold W. Crabtree officiating. Interment was in Cooks Cemetery. Pallbearers were Robert Skipper, John Spataro, Ronald Spataro, Robert Sturtz and Roger Spencer. The Republic, March 17, 1983 [S3232]
