Stutzman, 80, died recently in the Somerset Community Hospital from infirmities of age. He had been a hospital patient for several days. He was born on Christmas Day, 1864, in Somerset borough, the son of Frank and Matilda Patton Stutzman and spent all of his life in Somerset. During his early youth he became interested in metal work and gained a reputation as the finest artisan in hand wrought iron in the Somerset area. Many fine homes in Somerset contain samples of the handicraft, beautiful grille work, wrought iron candelabra, and wall ornaments. In addition to being a metal worker, he was an amateur artist and violinist. He could sketch an amazing likeness in a few moments and boasted of his ability to play "Turkey in the Straw," on one string of a violin. He was a grandson of the pioneer educator, Jost Stutzman, of Salisbury, and nephew of Joseph J. Stutzman, first Somerset County superintendent of schools, and of Mrs. Edith S. Beachy, of Longview, Washington, last survivor of the Jost Stutzman family. Two sisters of Justus Stutzman preceded him in death - the elder Miss Harriet Stutzman died in Ebensburg, December 6, 1940. His younger sister, Miss Mae, died in Somerset in 1885. Meyersdale Republican, April 27, 1944
