Suder, 89, Manchester Township, formerly of Berlin, died 5:07 p.m. July 9, 2008, at his residence. He was the husband of Dorothy H. (Hay) Suder. Mr. and Mrs. Suder observed their 62nd wedding anniversary on April 12, 2008. Mr. Suder was born in Brothersvalley Township, Somerset County, on Aug. 7, 1918, a son of the late John M. and Anna May (Bauermaster) Suder. In addition to his wife Dorothy, he is survived by a daughter, Sara Atkinson and husband Eldred of York; a son, Ronald H. Croner of Lewisburg; 5 grandchildren, Jaynanne DeWire, Walter H. Croner, Michael Croner, Douglas Atkinson, Amy Hester and six great-grandchildren, Dylan H. Croner, Kelly Hester, Daniel Hester, Michael Hester, Evelyn Atkinson and Carter Atkinson. He retired as a heavy equipment operator from Interstate Amiesite. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II having served in both the European and African Theatres. Ernest was a member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church of York and a 1935 graduate of Berlin High School. His memberships include a 50 year member of the Local 66 Operating Engineers Union, a member of the Berlin American Legion Post 445, Berlin Lions Club, Meyersdale Elks Club 1951, the Berlin VFW and the Antique Automobile Club. He was an avid antique auto collector, Pennsylvania auto license collector, pedal car collector and model car collector. Ernest and Dorothy enjoyed traveling through out the United States. Viewings will be 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Etzweiler Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 1111 E. Market St., York, and 10 to 11 a.m. Monday at Aldersgate United Methodist Church, 397 Tyler Run Road, York. A funeral service will be 11 a.m. Monday at the church. Officiating will be his pastors, the Rev. Jonathan L. Bausman and the Rev. Lori Ann Cale. Burial will follow at Susquehanna Memorial Gardens with graveside military rites by the York County Veterans Honor Guard.
