Wayne 04/13/2006 The New Republic May 2, 1916 - April 3, 2006 R. Wayne Suder, 89, Berlin, died April 3, 2006 at Meadow View Nursing Center. Born May 2, 1916, Wayne was the son of the late Clarence and Bertha Edith (Nichol) Suder. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Viola M. (Davis) Suder; sons: Robert W., Berea, KY, married to the former Judith Meyers, and David A., Bluemont, VA, married to the former Darlene O'Neil; grandchildren: Mark Suder, Fairmont, WVA, married to the former Margie Jo Batton; Melissa Arp, Butler, married to John Arp; Jessica Suder, Oxford, OH, married to Jeff Powers; and Danielle Ripperton, Evansville, IN, married to Ryan Ripperton; and great-grandsons: Timothy and Benjamin Suder, Bryce and Matthew Arp. Wayne was a 1932 graduate of Berlin Brothersvalley High School. He received his B.S. from Lock Haven State Teachers College, and M.Ed. from Penn State University. He served in the Army Intelligence Corps in WWII. He was a retired elementary and high school teacher for 42 years in the Berlin Brothersvalley School District. He received the Pennsylvania Teacher of the Year and Pennsylvania Superior Science Teacher Awards. He was also a registered surveyor and was the Berlin Borough Engineer for 20 years. Wayne was a member of the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Berlin, the Pennsylvania Association of Retired Teachers, Berlin American Legion, and the Berlin Historical Society. Wayne enjoyed camping, woodcarving, silverware jewelry making, recreational music with the organ, dulcimer, autoharp and harmonica, hunting, fishing and genealogy. A memorial service was held April 8 at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Berlin, with a reception afterwards. Arrangements by Deaner Funeral Home, Berlin.
