Suhrie, 80, of 132 Suhrie Hollow Rd., Berlin died July 31, 2000 at UPMC Memorial, Snake Spring Township. Born Feb. 23, 1920 in Allegheny Township, Somerset County, he was the son of the late Dennis Henry and Mary S. (Lilly) Suhrie. He was the husband of Josephine T. (Hankinson) Suhrie, whom he married Oct. 15, 1949. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son Phillip C., husband of Kathy Sager, Berlin; daughter Theresa M., wife of Wayne Fochtman, Berlin; son Leo F. husband of Linda Nicholson, Berlin; daughter Elizabeth A., wife of Bryan Bittner, Berlin; daughter Debbie A., wife of Jim Fisher, Bedford; son James P. husband of Sherrie Martin, Oakley, Calif.; daughter, Sharon I., wife of Dennis Hay, Berlin; son, Randy E., husband of Christine Nygerges, South Riding, Va.; brother, Francis Suhrie, Severn, Md.; brother Lawrence, Bedford; sister; Marie Hankinson, New Baltimore; sister, Rita Werner, Broomall; sister, Dorothy Smith, Berlin. He is also survived by 17 grandchildren, and a great-grandson. Preceded in death by son David, two brothers, Eugene and Robert. He was a retired employee of Exxon Corp. having worked at New Baltimore and Somerset for 27 years. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, New Baltimore. He served in World War II as a sergeant in the U.S. Army. He served in the Asiatic-Pacific and was awarded two Bronze Stars. Member of New Baltimore Sportsmans Club, Last Man's Club of Berlin, Post 445 of Berlin American Legion, and the Exxon Annuitant Club. Friends received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Mickle-Geisel Funeral Home, Schellsburg, where a vigil service will be held at 8:30 p.m. Funeral mass at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. John the Baptist Church, Rev. Mark Begly celebrant. Committal service at St. John's Cemetery, New Baltimore, with graveside military rites accorded by Berlin American Legion. Daily American, August 1, 2000 [S3315]
