Sumpter, 60, of Springs, died April 11, 1998, at his residence. Born Nov. 26, 1937, in Brooklyn, N.Y., a son of the late Edgar T. and Miriam A. Sumpter. He is survived by his wife, Marion E. (Briggs) Sumpter, sons, James H., Abita Springs, La., and Joseph E. Sewanee, Tenn.; daughters, Tami Adams, Ontario, N.Y., Nancy Hogar, Fairfield, Conn., Kimberly Conway, Wilmington, Ohio, and Valerie Barrett, Wyoming, Ohio; and 14 grandchildren. Retired accountant. Member of Springs Mennonite Church. Memorial services will be conducted at 4 p.m. Monday at Springs Mennonite Church with the Rev. Steven Heatwole officiating.
