Sutherland died February 29, 1944, in the Johns Hopkins Hospital, Baltimore, where he had been a patient for five months. His death was caused by a heart condition. His body was brought to Salisbury for burial in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery. Services were conducted at the Stanley Thomas Funeral Parlor, Friday afternoon at 2:30 with Rev. Ira S. Monn officiating. Mr. Sutherland was the son of Ellis and Adella Pearce Sutherland, and was born January 2, 1878, in Iowa. He was married to Grace Hay, daughter of the late Calvin T. Hay and wife of Salisbury. He was well known and had many friends in Salisbury. He is survived by his wife. For a number of years Mr. and Mrs. Sutherland have been residents of Knoxville, Tenn. He was a salesman for Hall Publications of Knoxville. He was a member of Masonic Blue Lodge, Nashua, Ia. Among persons from out of town who attended the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Roy E. Wonn, Mrs. George Brown, Mrs. Robert Hetrick, Elkins, W.Va.; Mr. and Mrs. W. N. Hay, Mr. and Mrs. John Carroll and daughter, Cumberland, and Mrs. C. L. Fletcher, Wheeling, W.Va. Mrs. Sutherland is remaining at the home of her sister, Mrs. C. M. May, for a few weeks before returning to her home in Knoxville. Meyersdale Republican, March 9, 1944
