Born Oct. 3, 1908 in Keyser, W.Va., he was the son of the late James Reese and Alice Edith (VanMeter) Swaner. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Thelma Phyllis (Marker) Swaner; a sister, Ruby Pearl Swaner; two brothers, Everett G. Swaner and Donald Isaac Swaner and two grandsons, William L. Swaner, Jr., and Terry G. McDonald Jr. He is survived by three sons, William Leroy Swaner, Cumberland, Md.; Paul Leon Swaner, Ridgeley, W.Va. and Robert Dale Swaner, Somerset; a daughter, Linda Kay (Swaner) McDonald, Ridgeley, W.Va.; a sister, Dorothy Marie Weakely, Ridgeley, W.Va.; 19 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren. Mr. Swaner was a graduate of Bruce High School. He was retired from the Western Maryland Railway, having been a car inspector. Mr. Swaner was a member of Calvary Assembly of God Church, Fort Ashby, Md. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the Upchurch Funeral Home, P.A, 202 Greene, St., Cumberland, Md., where funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday with Pastor Wesley Beahm officiating.
