He was born Jan. 26, 1922 in Jenner Township, Somerset County, to Myrtle and Elwood Swartz. Robert enjoyed collecting foreign coins, hunting, fishing and spending time with his family. He also enjoyed a wide variety of sports. He would tell you anything you wanted to know about football, baseball and basketball. He served in the military and was veteran of 3 wars with medals of honor. After traveling around the world, he retired in Auburn. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Ferne Isabelle Swartz. We love you, Pappa. Survived by daughters: Elizabeth Pavilonis, Auburn, Wash.; and Sandra Ann Sullivan and her husband, Roger, Peoria, Ill.; three grandchildren: Kara Pavilonis, of Auburn; Michael Sullivan of Peoria and Susan Blumenshine and her husband, Walter of Peoria. Sister, Maryellen Miller and her husband, George, of Bakersville; and brother, James Swartz and his wife, Lois Swartz of Bakersville. Great grandson, Roger Sullivan of Peoria; also many nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held in the summer in Berlin. Memorials to American Cancer Society.
