Swartzentruber, 72, Oakland RD 2, retired farmer and minister of Gortner Mennonite Church, was dead on arrival on Wednesday, May 17, at Garrett County Memorial Hospital, Oakland. He had been working at Penn Alps, near Grantsville, when he became ill and was taken to the hospital. A native of Farquar [sic] County, Va., he was a son of the late Lewis J. and Elizabeth (Yoder) Swartzentruber. His wife, the former Dora Leichty, preceded him in death. Surviving are his stepmother, Mrs. Naomi Swartzentruber, Goshen, Ind.; three daughters, Miss Betty of Gortner; Mrs. Luella Miller, Atglen, Pa., and Mrs. Harriet Monn, Oakland; also five grandchildren. He was a brother of Eli, Milton and Laban Swartzentruber, all of Greenwood, Del.; Ernest of Schuyler, Va.; Simon of St. Louis, Mo.; and Mrs. Sadie Sturpe, Orrville, Ohio. Funeral service was held on Saturday at Gortner Union Church, with Revs. Walter Otto and Paul Bender officiating. Interment was made in Gortner Union cemetery.
