  Ernest R. "Ernie" Swartzwelder, 86, Stoystown, went to be with the Lord Feb.
  21, 2005, at Memorial Medical Center. Born Aug. 3, 1918, in Benson Borough, a
  son of John J. and Belle (Cassady) Swartzwelder. Preceded in death by his
  parents; infant daughter, Audrey, brothers: James, John, Cletus, Devear and
  Louis; sisters, Hilda Swartzwelder and Alzene Martin. Survived by his loving
  wife of 64 years, the former Mary Pebley; children: Rodger, married to the
  former Karen Zipfel, Hooversville; David, married to the former Tracy Ross,
  Stoystown; grandchildren: Robin Custer, Paula, married to Jeffrey Schartiger,
  Pamela, Scott, Michael and Michelle Swartzwelder; great-grandchildren: Jennifer
  and Mark Custer and Kayla, Elizabeth and Matthew Schartiger; brother of Leoma
  Coleman and George Swartzwelder, both of Central City. Also survived by
  numerous special nieces and nephews. Ernest worked in the coal mines for many
  years and was a piano technician. He retired from PennDOT as a foreman. He was
  a Democratic committeeman for 35 years. He was inducted into the Pennsylvania
  Voter's Hall of Fame in 1986 for 50 consecutive years of voting. Member of
  Kantner Assembly of God, Laurel Highlands Somerset Chapter PARSE, Central City
  Democratic Club and Jenner Rod and Gun Club. Family will receive friends from 2
  to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Deaner Funeral Home, Stoystown where service
  will be held at 11 a.m. Friday. The Rev. Frances Smith officiating. Interment
  Otterbein Cemetery, Wilbur. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be given to
  Kantner Assembly of God, 430 Schoolhouse Rd. Kantner, PA 15548
