He had been in ill health for about a year and had been confined to his home for several months failing gradually until he passed away. Mr. Swartzwelder was born in Garrett County, Maryland, on July 27, 1872, son of Mary (Diehl) and James D. Swartzwelder, and was 75 years, 3 months and 10 days in age at his death. He was a coal miner in his younger days, until he retired about 20 years ago. He has been constable in Salisbury for the past 25 years and held that office at the time of his death. He was a member of the Methodist Church. In addition to his wife, Mrs. Emma Katherine (Tressler) Swartzwelder, he is survived by four daughters: Mrs. Dessie Richardson of Scranton, Pa.; Mrs. Alverta Tower of LaVale, Md.; Mrs. Ethel Kegley of Sharon, Pa., and Eileen, at home; three sons; Floyd of Jerome, Pa., Walter of New Cumberland, Pa., and Dalton, at home; two sisters; Mrs. Nora Trent of Salisbury and Mrs. Molly Hyatt of Meyersdale; three brothers; Edgar of Hooversville, Pa., and John and Albert of Salisbury; 11 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted in the Methodist Church at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 9th with the pastor, the Rev. Floyd H. Gotjen, officiating. Interment in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in charge of Mortician Stanley M. Thomas. Meyersdale Republican, November 13, 1947
