He had been in failing health for several years and was as well as usual when he left his home shortly before he was found dead. He was the son of William Henry and Martha Glotfelty Swauger, and was born in Allegany County, Md., Feb. 7. 1872. On Dec. 1, 1903, he married Miss Bertha Bittinger, who passed away March 8, 1939. Surviving are the following children: Ionia, wife of W. H. Miller, Grantsville; Viola, wife of William Barclay, Johnstown, Pa.; Evelyn, wife of Fred Bittinger, Grantsville; Mrs. Helen Hendershot, Hancock, Md., and Ivan Swauger, Cumberland; 13 grandchildren, one brother, Joseph Swauger, Bedford, Ohio, and two sisters, Mrs. May McGregor, Canton, O., and Mrs. Elizabeth Kerns, Philadelphia. Mr. Swauger came to Grantsville soon after his marriage and worked as a wheelwright and carpenter with the Younkin Brothers until their death when he retired. He was a member of the Lutheran Church and a Charter member of the Woodmen of the World, Camp No. 41, Grantsville since August 18, 1913. Funeral services in the Grantsville Lutheran Church, Thursday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock. Rev. George Bowersox, the pastor, officiating. Interment in the family lot in Grantsville cemetery.
