Swauger Fatally Injured by Falling Off a Kiln GRANTSVILLE, Md., July 24 - Clark M. Swauger, returned World War II veteran, son of Mrs. Lillie Hare Swauger and the late John Swauger of Jennings, was seriously injured about 9 o'clock Monday morning when he fell 15 feet from a kiln onto the cement floor at the Union Fire Brick Company plant at Jennings. The unfortunate young man was assisting a plumber with some work on top of a kiln and probably inhaled some gas which overcame him and caused him to fall. He suffered a fracture of the skull. He was rushed to the Memorial Hospital, Cumberland, in Wm. Winterberg's ambulance, and died about 4 o'clock in the afternoon without recovering consciousness. Funeral services will be held in the Jennings Lutheran Church, Thursday morning, July 25, at 10 o'clock. Rev. C. H. Runze, pastor of the Bittinger Lutheran parish will officiate. Interment in the Bittinger Lutheran cemetery. Clark M. Swauger was born Dec. 7, 1915, near Grantsville and served over four years in the A.A.F. He was called to service in the U.S. Army in July 1941 and was discharged in November, 1945. He was sent to the Pacific theater of operations soon after the attack on Pearl Harbor and served as a mess sergeant. He was the wearer of five battle stars, the Good Conduct Medal and several campaign ribbons. He had been employed at the Jennings brick plant since April 7, 1946. Surviving are his mother, these sisters: Mrs. Ethel Seafford, Cumberland; Mrs. Rosella Wiley, Holsopple, Pa.; Mrs. Ruth Younkin, Grantsville, and Mrs. Nora Beitzel and three brothers, Elmer and Clarence of Jennings, and Albert, Grantsville. This was the second fatal accident at the Union Fire Brick Co.'s large plant at Jennings. Galen Beachy Jr., having been instantly killed while at work there while the plant was under construction, last March 15th. Meyersdale Republican, July 25, 1946
