Swauger, 85, of 26 Parkside Boulevard, LaVale, Md., died Monday, Jan. 5, 1987, in Sacred Heart Hospital, Cumberland, Md. Born in New Germany Aug. 6, 1901, he was the son of the late Charles T. and Harriet Alice (Green) Swauger. He was preceded in death by two wives, Blanche D. (Layman) Swauger in 1945, and Ethel (Simpson) Swauger in 1965. He retired in 1965 from the Kelly-Springfield Tire Company as a carpenter after 24 years of service. He was a member of LaVale United Methodist Church, LaVale Volunteer Fire Company, Woodmen of the World Camp 41, Grantsville, and LOO Moose Lodge 348, Frostburg. He was a former Grantsville councilman and was past director of the Kelco Credit Union. Surviving are his widow, Ruby (Dunn) Swauger; four sons, Walter A. Swauger, Grantsville, Md.; Leland "Lee" R. Swauger Jr., Taylor, Mich.; James E. Swauger, LaVale, Md.; and C. Thomas Swauger, Bowie, Md.; one stepson, Robert Jones, Ranson, W.Va.; one daughter, Mrs. Margie Mangus, Fayetteville, N.C.; one step-daughter, Mrs. Elizabeth Bruck, Cumberland, Md.; 23 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Friends were received in the Hafer Chapel of the Hills Mortuary where services were conducted Thursday at 1:30 p.m. by Dr. Howard Newman. Interment, Grantsville Cemetery.
