SWEARMAN Edgar William "Slim" Swearman, 76, of 220 East Berlin Road, York Springs, died Sept. 22, 1988, at Carlisle Hospital, after being in failing health the last several months. He was born in Summit Mills, August 13, 1912, the son of the late Frederick Joseph and Alice (Bender) Swearman. He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Anna Katherine Shultz, who died July 23, 1965. He is survived by five children: Mrs. George T. (Joyce Marie) Topper, Jr., Abbottstown RD 1; Edgar J., York Springs; Russell E., Biglerville; Robert D., East Berlin, and Elwood R., York Springs; eight grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and two sisters: Anna Sellers-Judy and Hilda Swearman, both of Meyersdale. He was employed by Duffy-Mott, Inc. for 19 years before retiring in 1977. Former resident of Somerset County. He and his family re-located to Adams County in the late 1950's. Services were held Sept. 26 at the Dugan Funeral Home, Inc., Bendersville, the Rev. Theodore E. Bowers, pastor of the Zwingli United Church of Christ of East Berlin, officiating.
