Born on June 12, 1921, in Windber, he was the son of the late Frederick D. Swearman and Mary F. Saylor. He grew up in Pennsylvania and learned the railroad industry from his father at a young age. Pursuing his career, Mr. Swearman moved to Maryland at a young age to live with relatives and work for the B&O Railroad. He married Marjorie Elizabeth Andrews on June 12, 1943. Mr. Swearman served in the Army during WWII in Belgium, France and Germany and was one of six surviving members of his company in the 69th Division who fought at the Battle of the Bulge. He was honorably discharged as a Master Sgt. Mr. Swearman returned to Maryland and back to B&O working for over 30 years as a telegrapher. Upon retiring Mr. and Mrs. Swearman moved to Queenstown. They later moved to Forest Hill to be near family. Mr. Swearman was a member of Immanuel United Methodist Church in Grasonville, Md. Mrs. Swearman predeceased him on February 17, 2000. He is survived by his two sons: Barron P. Swearman of Bel Air, Md.; and Douglas J. Swearman of Columbia, Md.; a sister, Mary Frances Prochko of Ohio; a brother, Jack Swearman of Monrovia, Md.; and six grandchildren. Family and friends were received on Monday December 29, 2003, at the Fellows, Helfenbein and Newnam Funeral Home, P.A. in Chester, Md. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, December 30, at the funeral home.
