"BILL" SWEARMAN October 2, 1928 - June 10, 2002 William R. "Bill" Swearman, 73, of Somerset, passed away Monday, June 10, 2002, at Meyersdale Medical Center. Born Oct. 2, 1928, in Summit Mills, he was a son of the late Robert L. and Lola E. (Sechler) Swearman. He was also preceded in death by daughters Vicki Diane and Bambi Lynn; a grandson William Robert Swearman III and brother Donald C. Swearman. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, the former Joyce Marie Leazier; these children: Mrs. Becki Sue (H. Wayne) O'Dell of Homer, Mich.; Mrs. Nikki Beth (Gregory A.) Meade of Warren, Ohio; Mr. William R. Swearman II and wife Cheryl Lynn (Boylan) of Champion, Ohio; eight grandchildren: Derrick Devlin and Katherine Elizabeth O'Dell, Tiffany Del Rae; Tabitha Lou Rae; William R. Swearman IV, James Lyell and Michael Vincent and Vikki Marie Meade; one great-grandson Charles Andrew Swearman; one brother, Blaine Swearman and wife Doris of Irwin; sisters-in-law Mrs. Grace (Uphold) Swearman and Mrs. Donna J. (Robert A.) Hotchkiss, both of Meyersdale; two very special nieces, Mrs. Traci (Dwight) Diehl and Mrs. Kimberly (Harry) Winkler, both of Garrett; mother-in-law Elsie A. Leazier of Garrett; several nephews and one niece. Bill was a WWII U.S. Army Veteran; retired steelworker after 31 years from Van Huffel Tube Corp. and 10 years from General Electric as a Security Guard, both of Warren. He was a former employee of Bethlehem Steel of Johnstown. He was a celebrated 50 year plus member of the L.O.O.M. #76, William C. Tressler Post 3504 VFW and Charles E. Kelly Post #112 American Legion, all of Meyersdale. Friends were scheduled to be received at the M. Ray Leckemby Funeral Home, Meyersdale, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, June 12. There will be an Hour of Honor from 1-2 p.m. Thursday (today), June 13. Interment, Lichty Cemetery, Summit Mills, where a Military Funeral will proceed with "Taps" played and recited and a six gun salute finale. By the request of the deceased, there will be no other service. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made to Beverly Healthcare-Meyersdale Manor.
